As the Head of Engineering at a Series B startup revolutionizing the payment industry, your role is pivotal in shaping the company’s technical direction and driving innovation. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Product & Technology Strategy: Define and lead the technical vision, aligning it with overarching business objectives. Identify opportunities for innovation and differentiation through technology in the payment space.
  • Hands-On Coding: Dedicate around 50% of your time to hands-on coding, actively contributing to the codebase, and guiding best practices to set a strong example while maintaining your technical proficiency.
  • Agile Team Building: Create and lead a high-performing agile engineering team. This involves recruiting, mentoring, and managing software engineers to ensure their professional growth, collaboration, and successful project delivery.


  • Product Development Expertise: Proven experience in successfully building and launching high-quality products from concept to iteration, guiding the team through each phase of the product development lifecycle.
  • Payment Industry Knowledge: A deep understanding of the payment industry, particularly within the FinTech sector, is essential. This knowledge includes familiarity with regulatory frameworks, industry trends, and customer needs to drive meaningful innovation.
  • Strong Coding Abilities: Proficiency in relevant technologies, such as React.js, Node.js, and TypeScript, is crucial to actively contribute to the codebase and guide sound technical decisions.
  • Cloud Platform Expertise: Being well-versed in Amazon Web Services (AWS) is important, as these platforms will likely form the foundation of your technical infrastructure.
  • Leadership Skills: Effective leadership and team-building skills are paramount, inspiring, motivating, and mentoring your engineering team to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
